Definition: Physical branch service providing customer access to a bank vault box for storage of documents and valuables. Designated only above a materiality threshold (≥ 10,000 active boxes across the network). Below that, box access is handled as a branch-operations dependency rather than a standalone IBS (important business service).

Why it is designated: State unclaimed-property statutes put abandoned box contents on a multi-year escheat clock, under which unclaimed property passes to the state. That clock is the service's only regulatory timeline. Nothing turns on outage hours. A low-urgency next-day band is therefore defensible relative to payment and settlement services.
